After Aliya Mustafina tore her meniscus on vault in the first rotation, Russian Champion Anna Dementyeva, who qualified second, performed consistently to win the title. It is unfortunate that Mustafina injured herself for many reasons, but it is actually quite annoying because there was no reason whatsoever that she needed to attempt an Amanar, unless she planned on falling at least two times over the next three events. I was expecting it in event finals, but not here. Elisabeth Seitz finished second in front of her home crowd with very strong vault and bars scores. The two Romanians, Amelia Racea and Diana Chelaru, put some pressure on Seitz, but couldn’t quite pass her. 2010 Youth Olympic All Around Bronze Medalist Carlotta Ferlito finished fifth in her first major international competition.
