Doha Finals, Day 1

March 31, 2011

The first two finals, vault and bars, took place today at the Doha Challenger Cup. Gymnastics Coaching posted links to the results.

Vault

Name Total VT 1 VT 1 D VT 1 E VT 2 VT 2 D VT 2 E
1 Daniele Matias Hypolito 13.55 13.95 5 8.95 13.15 4.8 8.35
2 Makarena Pinto Adasme 13.425 13.75 5.2 8.55 13.1 5.4 7.7
3 Dewi Prahara 13.2 13.45 4.6 8.85 12.95 4.6 8.35
4 Nancy Mohamed Taman 13.1 12.9 4.4 8.5 13.3 4.6 8.7
4 Farida Ahmed Shokry 13.1 13.45 5.1 8.35 12.75 4.4 8.35
6 Claudia Cummins 12.825 13 4.8 8.2 12.65 4.4 8.25
7 Shaden Wohdan 11.85 11.3 4.4 6.9 12.4 4.4 8
8 Aljazy Al-Habshi 11.65 12.1 4 8.1 11.2 4.4 6.8

It seems like Daniele Hypolito has downgraded since worlds, but her scores were still good enough to win this competition. Makarena Pinto had the highest difficulty, but the execution on her second vault prevented her from winning. The rest of the competition was filled with gymnasts who did not have enough difficulty to outweigh their 6s, 7s and 8s in executions

Bars

Name Total D E
1 Tan Sixin 14.8 6.3 8.5
2 Larissa Miller 13.45 5.9 7.55
3 Yao Jinnan 13.35 6.4 6.95
4 Moldir Azimbay 12.55 5.3 7.25
5 Christine Lee 11.9 5.4 6.5
6 Nicole Szabo 11.8 4.9 6.9
7 Gaelle Mys 10.1 5.4 4.7
8 Dewi Prahara 9.15 4.4 4.75

Tan Sixin struggled earlier this year in Cottbus, but has rebounded well here. From yesterday’s results, it looks like she upgraded in prelims (6.7) and earned her highest bars score ever, 15.0. It seems like everybody else struggled. Maybe Larissa Miller and Moldir Azimbay hit, but the rest of the gymnasts must have had at least one fall or major mistake.

Overall, this seems much less competitive than the Cottbus Cup, the first Challenger Cup of the year. Tan Sixin and Yao Jinnan should have no problem dominating the beam and floor finals tomorrow. Those two are the class of the field in this competition. I will link today’s results to videos if they become available.
