Wild Rose Invitational 2011- Preview
The Wild Rose Invitational takes place this weekend, and will feature some of the best gymnasts in the world. The obvious favorite for the all around title is 2010 world all around silver medalist, Jiang Yuyuan of China. The other Chinese gymnasts, Huang Huidan and Shang Chunsong are younger and do not have world championship experience, but they are both extremely talented. Huang Huidan in particular stands out as a potential candidate for the 2012 olympic team with strong bars and beam sets along with a beautiful (but simple) floor routine. Canada is sending a large amount of gymnasts, who also vary in experience. Standouts may be 2010 world team member Jessica Savona, who unveiled a new Dos Santos on floor recently, 2010 world team alternate Dominique Pegg, a former Elite Canada winner who is returning from the injury that kept her from competing at worlds, Mikaela Gerber, a five time medalist from the recent Canada Games and Sabrina Gill, who tied for gold in the all around at the Canada Games. Miranda Meyer is not listed with the Canadian team, but has looked very strong on beam in the past. Australia’s team consists of many new seniors, Britt Greeley who has struggled with injurys and Emily Little, a 2010 world team member who is likely the strongest and most experienced gymnast in the group. It will be very interesting to see where all of these gymnasts are at this point in the season. I believe this link will be updated with scores. The full teams are listed below.
