Komova out of Europeans
It’s been confirmed that Viktoria Komova will not be able to compete at the European Championships in April. Prior to an injury that would have limited her to a specialist position if she competed, Komova would have been considered a favorite for the all around title as well as a possible medalist on all four events.
Komova’s ankle, which she fractured before the Voronin Cup in December, will not be operated on. The Russian coaches are hoping that she will be able to return to competition at the Moscow World Cup.
The Russian women’s team for Europeans will be Aliya Mustafina, Anna Dementyeva, Tatiana Nabieva and Yulia Belokobilskaya. It was previously mentioned that Mustafina and Dementyeva will compete all around and Nabieva will compete vault and bars. I assume Belokobilskaya will compete bars, beam and floor, even though every gymnast is permitted to compete all around in prelims.
