Since I last posted about it, fourteen gymnasts have qualified to the 2011 Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup. They are:

  • Jordan Naleway of Vernon Hills, Ill./Aerial Gymnastics Club
  • Maile’ana Kanewaof Duluth, Minn./The Gymnastics Academy
  • Rachel Spicer of Highland Village, Texas/Metroplex
  • Sachi Sugiyama of Keller, Texas/Top Flight
  • Ashley Lambert of Newport News, Va./World Class Gymnastics
  • Annette Miele of Easton, Pa./Parkettes
  • Jennie Laeng of West Middlesex, Pa./Olympic Dreams
  • Kelsey Lawless of Lyndhurst, Ohio/Elite Gymnastics Academy.

It looks like this is going to be a similar competition to last year’s. There are a lot of level 10 qualifiers who I have not heard of before, and there are a couple elites or former elites. Those include former US National Team member Asi Peko and Mackenzie Brannan. Asi Peko hasn’t competed elite for a couple of years; Mackenzie Brannan is a talented junior who turns senior next year and missed the national team by around a point. In fact, three gymnasts who just missed the national team have qualified. It will be interesting to see how they are doing this year, as well as the gymnasts who are getting ready to head to NCAA competition.

There are six more Nastia Liukin Cup qualifying meets that will take place in the next two weekends. The competition itself will take place in two weeks, the day before the American Cup.
