Some Judges at 2010 Worlds

Recognize anyone? Perhaps someone who won a medal in Rotterdam in 1987?

Yes, I’m thinking of Oksana Omelianchik and Elena Shevchenko, who were members of Soviet teams in the late 1980s. Interestingly enough, it was Shevchenko who made the olympic team in 1988 over 1985 World Champion Omelianchik.

They both judged floor during the all around, where they were fantastic as competitors. Shevchenko had some of the most difficult tumbling ever, including a rare 1 1/2 twist to full-in combination. She had great, sassy choreography to “The Pink Panther.” Omelianchik, 1985 world floor champion, wasn’t the greatest tumbler, although she was the first gymnast to ever compete a 3/1 twist + punch front combo. What she was more known for was her innovative back to back tumbling and her charming choreography.

Here are some of their best routines:

Just to let you know it was Elena Shushanova who was joint world champion with Oksana Omeliantchik. 🙂 And Elena Shushanova who won the place over Oksana. 🙂
